Askaneli Khvanchkara is a Georgian red licorice-based wine from the Askaneli Brothers company, created in the famous wine-producing region of Racha. The drink is prepared from autochthonous Georgian varieties of Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes, which are traditionally selected for the production of Khvanchkara wine.
The wine has a rich ruby color and a harmonious savory profile. The taste brings out notes of frozen cherries, oranges, plums and black berries, which are complemented by light natural sweetness and soft tannins. With balanced acidity, the wine has an oxamite texture and a trivial, pleasant aftertaste.
The aroma of Askaneli Khvanchkara is rich and varied - with hints of berry jam, black currant, spices and light cinnamon. To preserve the natural sweetness of the grapes, the fermentation of the wine is followed by a cooling route, which is a traditional technology for the extraction of Georgian sweet wines.
The history of the Askaneli brand dates back to the end of the 19th century in the Georgian village of Askana, where Chkhaidze’s homeland has been engaged in winemaking for many generations. Current winemaking combines traditional Georgian winemaking methods with modern technologies to control bitterness.
Askaneli Khvanchkara is recommended to be served at a temperature of 16–18 °C. The wine goes well with fruits, desserts, soft cheeses, peas and meat herbs, and is also wonderfully suitable for Christmastide or a leisurely evening, if you want to enjoy the classic Georgian sweet wine from a rich yummy character.
